After many months of sorting and planning, Horsemanship Australia has formed a partnership with TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute, Richmond campus, to deliver an internationally recognised qualification in Young Horse Starting and Training. We know that you invest a lot of time and money in your horsemanship journey, with little formal recognition of the time and money you have spent, and we have been trying to address this. This course will offer the dual qualification:

Certificate III in Horse Care and Husbandry
Certificate in Young Horse Starting and Training

Young Horse Starting and Training encapsulates the very core principles of horse training and horsemanship, and many of the principles are applicable to the ongoing education and training of the horse. Whether or not you wish to pursue a profession in Young Horse Starting, this course would be a valuable stepping-stone on your horsemanship journey, with the added benefit of a formerly recognised dual qualification.

The web site for this course is due for launching on 20 October, by which time most of the bugs should be ironed out. The web address is www.younghorsetraining.com.au, and contains heaps of information about the course.

Pricing for Australian students is still to be finalised, but the good news is that the entire course (excluding accommodation if you need to live away from home to do the course) is going to be less than $5,000. This will include six weeks of “full on” hands on training (minimum 40 hours per week theory & practical) plus a whole host of on line learning subjects.

The even better news is, we are providing a special offer to our students and those on our mailing list who enrol for the first “hands on” session of this course, commencing 8th March 2004. Six weeks after the completion of the course (week commencing 31 May), you are invited to come to our property for an additional 5 days to start a young horse under supervision, at no extra cost. In these 5 days, we will be there to help should problems arise, you have further questions, or just want to know that someone is around during the process. This will be a horse that you supply, and could even be a paying client of yours.

Please check out the web site and give us a call should you have any questions about the course. This course is being advertised Australia wide and internationally, and each “hands on” session will be limited to 15 participants. If you wish to attend the first course and take up the offer of the additional 5 free days, please book early to avoid disappointment. Applications will be processed in order of receipt by TAFE NSW, and it will be out of our hands re who gets the places!
