Abbotswood House is set in the delightful rural surrounds of East Sussex, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Here we base our family`s hobby and passion - breeding, producing and competing our own top class coloured horses and ponies. We have been very fortunate to have home produced champions - Three British Supreme Champions - and to breed a Supreme National Champion, British National Foal Winner, First Premium Colt and County Show Champion. Our boy, Abbotswood Gorgie Boy is the first homebred traditional gypsy cob to be graded with both CHAPS and BSPA - and being CHAMPION at just 3 years old!

GREENBRIAR FOX TROTTERS, located in Washington State, has been established for over eighteen years now. My daughter, Kristina, and I are dedicated to studying and learning about the breed. Our goal is to breed sound, conformationally correct, and naturally performing horses with great temperaments. We believe you can breed performance without sacrificing beauty and conformation and vice versa.
Our start in Fox Trotters came from my desire to own a gaited but nice looking horse with a pleasant temperament. I looked at most of the gaited breeds and finally purchased two Quarter horses because I could not find what I desired. I had never heard of the fox trotter at that time, but I soon learned about them as soon as I purchased the quarter horses. I accidentally found out about them when I knocked at a person’s door after seeing they had an injured horse in their pasture with a medication I had been searching for. The owner answered the door and I was riding a fox trotter within about ten minutes. Several hours later I drove away with both - my medication and the ownership of an unborn foal. Expensive stop! At that time, there were probably no more than fifty fox trotters in Washington State. My desire to own a fox trotter old enough to ride led me on a search throughout the Northwest (Washington, Idaho, Northern California & Oregon). After finding only a few horses that were available I decided to fly to Texas and Missouri on my search. The people were all wonderful and hospitable. Those were the days when the trainers and breeders had a lot more time to spend with individuals. My trip ended in my purchase of a two-year old, palomino filly sired by Ozark Traveler (sired by Missouri Traveler) and Lucky Lady R. (1st in 1979 Mares, 3 year old & 3rd in ’79 World Champion 3 year old). Later that same year, we purchased several more mares from Billy & Jill Johnson. From these mares, we produced two of the best show and trail horses in the Northwest. They excelled in the ring and/or competition on the trails. We maintained with these horses for most of the early years until my daughter started 4-H and “relaxing” became a thing of the past. Kristina loves to compete and we had to come up with some horses she could compete with. And so the story goes….
Our experience in horses has taught us that you can only be as good as your horse when competing and vice versa. If you don’t have a horse that has the ability or desire to be an excellent trail or show horse, you can’t force that horse to be better than he is. Our desire is to produce quality horses that can be shown or used on trails. Any show horse on our place is also trail ridden. In our search for some top show horses, it is our experience that these horses demand top prices. Many times they have been ridden too young and have attitude and/or physical problems. Our horses are never ridden until they are approaching three years old, which helps assure long term soundness. The groundwork is done and they are ready to saddle by that time. We realize that we are losing out on their two-year old year in performance, but we want our horses to mature first. When we are looking for all of these qualifications, it becomes necessary for us to begin our own breeding program.
We have carefully selected our brood mares. Almost every one of these mares has produced world champions. We hope to continue their production of world class foals. My daughter and I believe that we have a better percentage of producing top foals with horses that have produced in the past.
We hope that you will visit our facility. We are happy to show you our palomino stallion – Tequila Sunrise sired by Southern Sunrise, our foals, mares, and answer any questions you may have.
We are interested in promoting the Missouri Fox Trotter and we want to promote them in an honest and fair manner. Answering questions about breeding, training, etc. will be done to the best of our knowledge and personal experience. We welcome your questions and/or visits!
