Santiago Rizzo - Argentina
Kerri Hill-Grisham has lived in Arizona for the past 13 years and has been involved with the importation of Australian Arabian ponies for the past 7 years. Grisham Hill is owned and operated by Kerri and her husband Ben Grisham, who reside in North Phoenix Arizona USA with their two children, Ethan and Addison. Originally from Australia, Kerri was raised around horses from a young age, breeding a passion and love that has stayed with her through life. At the age of 16 she suffered a bad horse riding accident while jumping cross country and ended up in a wheelchair due to spinal damage. Despite her ordeal, Kerri refused to hide away and moved to the USA where she spent the next few years working as a successful make-up artist in Hollywood. Although she enjoyed her work, Kerri remained focus on her ultimate goal and eventually left the entertainment industry to pursue her one true passion – horses.
In 2001, Kerri began importing Australian Arabian Ponies, the only ones within the USA. Over the past few years Kerri has worked closely with her horses, whilst also working as a freelance journalist, covering USA show events for ‘Horse Shows’, an internationally distributed Australian horse magazine.
Today, Kerri shows a remarkable passion and enthusiasm for her horses and is working diligently to compete later in the year on her pure Arabian gelding Amurath Santiago in the open hunter ring and dressage. Kerri’s main goal is to enter the 2010 World Equestrian Games and then the 2012 Paralympics in England while representing Australia as a Para Equestrian in Dressage. Despite residing in the USA, it is Kerri’s ultimate goal to represent Australia as she rides for gold at the Paralympics. As the only Australian Para Equestrian in the US, Kerri aims to use her unique position to work hard at promoting the Australian equine industry and her industry sponsors in the United States. Kerri is committed to growing awareness of Australian products in the United States, providing her Australian sponsors with industry exposure that they normally would not be unable to attain. In doing this, Kerri is also providing opportunities for her American sponsors, helping them build industry relationships with organizations in Australia.
Kerri would like her story of success to inspire others to strive for their goals in the face of adversity. Kerri refuses to be dissuaded by the obstacles in her life and hopes to encourage others to do the same, “I hope people see what I am doing and realize that anything is possible if you just put your mind to it and believe in yourself. Never give up and remember every great achievement was once considered impossible. I am living proof of that”.
