Horse Racing Courses
courses in nearly every country, there are a handful that are famous for various reasons and are just plain awesome. Let`s look at what some of these famous courses and tracks are what it is that makes them quite so special.
Churchill Downs
This racetrack is famous for holding one of the most famous races today, the Kentucky Derby. It opened back in 1875 and the Kentucky Derby is one of the best-attended sporting events in the entire country. It can seat over 50,000 people and it`s always filled to the brim and then some. This iconic course will hopefully be around another 100 years.
Ascot
This is one of the oldest racetracks in the world, having opened way back in 1711. It has many famous races, but this includes The Gold Cup, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The Royal Ascot Race is still attended by the British Royal Family today and more than 300,000 people visit the course during that time. It`s pretty remarkable how long it`s been around so with a rich history and the monarchy in attendance, it`s certainly up there in the most famous racing tracks.
Longchamp
< While this is perhaps not as well known as Ascot or Churchill Downs, this course in Paris is home to Europe`s most prestigious race the Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe. It opened in 1857 and situated on the Seine it is one of the most beautiful racetracks out there, earning it a spot on this list.
Flemington
This racecourse is home to the Melbourne Cup and the Victoria Derby, both huge races in Australia. It can seat 120,000 fans and it`s an Australian National Heritage Site. It lies just outside of Melbourne city and because the Melbourne Cup is so popular, racetracks around the country receive their best attendance on that day purely because of people wanting to place bets on the race. If that`s not impressive we don`t know what is!
Pimlico
This racecourse in Maryland in the US is famous for the Preakness Stakes and is one of the oldest racetracks in the country, having opened back in 1870. The reason it`s quite so famous is because this racetrack has seen some pretty incredible equestrian legends such as Seabiscuit and Secretariat. Not only is the course beautiful, but it also is one of the few racetracks that offer true premium seating to regular people for relatively reasonable prices. You can get a ticket to the Turfside Terrace, a wonderful area with a gourmet-food buffet and a view of the finish line for as little as $110.
There are of course many other famous racetracks in the world but these are the creme de la creme of the racing world. With rich histories, famous dignitaries and stunning settings, these are the most well-known in the entire world.
