Pierre Durand Senior a French Equestrian, who competed at the 1960 and the 1972 Summer Olympics
General Pierre Durand was chief rider of the Cadre Noir de Saumur from 1975 to 1984 and director of the National Riding School from 1984 to 1988. During all these years, he was very active and contributed to training many teachers and developing equestrian sports. This former Saint-Cyrian, spahi on horseback, Pierre Durand was eventing and show jumping champion, twice selected for the Olympic Games.
Before taking the reins of the Cadre Noir, he had been an international riding champion. He had won the team eventing bronze medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960, and had been selected in 1972 in show jumping at the Munich Games. He also had 25 Nations Cup appearances to his name.
In 2008, General Durand took stock of his life in a book, "French horsemanship", subtitled, "my choice of heart and reason", published by Actes Sud.
