Patrick Dwyer
Patrick Dwyer was born in 1968 in Killkenny, Ireland. Horses have been a big part of his life since he was he was a boy. He started riding at age 4, and started showing horses at age 8. Patrick has produced, trained and competed Grand Prix horses at international shows since 1974, and has won numerous championships in highly prestigious shows. His early training came from world`s leaders in the show jumping arena. Patrick has been training horses and riders for “A” level shows for almost twenty years.
In addition to his riding and training abilities, Patrick is also an expert at finding the appropriate horse for a rider. He has a keen sense of what each rider needs and is unmatched in his ability to pair horse and rider. Patrick has been buying an selling sport horses for many years, first in Europe, and then for the past six years in the United States. For the five years prior to moving to the United States, Patrick worked with famous equestrian rider Kevin Babbington. The two worked together to import sport horses from Europe to sell in the United States. That partnership is still going strong.
Patrick moved to the U.S. last year where he worked as assistant trainer for Damian Gardiner Stables. He currently owns and manages Patrick Dwyer Show Stables, which is located at Sunny Hill Farm in Walnut Creek, CA. His focus is on working with both horses and riders, conducting clinics, and selling top-level sport horses.
Encouraging up-and-coming riders as well as seasoned professionals is a key aspect of Patrick dedication to his work. From 1992 to 1995, Patrick ran a riding program for Daffodil Lodge Stud, Kill, County Kildare, Ireland. He then moved on to run his own facility, Riverside Stables, in Kilkenny, Ireland from 1995 to 2000. Patrick was then offered an opportunity to move to the U.S. as the assistant trainer for Damien Gardiner Stables. Here he was responsible for schooling horses, training both amateur and Grand Prix students, coaching “A” level shows, and holding clinics in the U.S. and in Europe.
Selling champion horses has been a passion for Patrick since 1987, when he was the “Sole Rider, First Rider, at Henry Schulumberg Stables in Zurich Switzerland, a very well-respected dealer of international horses. His responsibilities included both schooling and showing sale horses at National Shows. Patrick was responsible for schooling, campaigning and selling international prospect horses during his three-year tenure as First Rider at Cyril Light Stables, in Brighton, Sussex, England. It was during Patrick’s time at this facility, well renowned for producing international riders, that he won numerous “Young Horse” Championships. Patrick also managed the William Funnell Stables in Guildord, Surrey, England, a British Nations Cup Team Member, where he was responsible for the entire sale horse program. His mastery of matching horse and rider is unmatched in the industry. “Patrick has an uncanny genius when it comes to finding the right horse for a rider,” said Kevin Babbington, a world-class equestrian rider who has worked with Patrick. Patrick lives in Walnut Creek, CA. He has a keen interest in world affairs, reading, sports, and world travel.
