Norman Dello Joio is best known for two major titles-he won the 1983 FEI World Cup Final in Vienna, Austria, aboard the French-bred stallion I Love You; and he earned the Individual Bronze Medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics riding the chestnut gelding Irish.
Nicknamed "Stormin` Norman" for his aggressive riding style, Norman Dello Joio was first named to the U.S. Olympic Team in 1980, but didn`t compete due to the U.S. boycott. He established an American Grand prix Association record when he rode Johnny`s Pocket to five wins in 1981.
In 1999, Norman Dello Joio made his mark with a talented new horse named Glasgow. The pair`s most impressive victory was in the $100,000 Cosequin USGPL Invitational in Culpeper, VA, when they topped a tough field of Grand Prix competitors.
In 2000, Glasgow continued to excel as he began the season on the Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival Circuit in Wellington, FL. He began with three victories in four starts in January and February, including the $50,000 Kilkenny-Redland International Cup. He capped the 2000 season by winning the $100,000 President`s Cup at the Washington International Horse Show in Washington, DC after placing second in the $553,2000 Du Maurier LTD. International Grand Prix in Calgary, Canada.
In 2001, Norman Dello Joio and Glasgow won the Refco King George V Gold Cup at the Royal International Horse Show in West Sussex, England and came in third in the Kerrygold Classic at CSIO Dublin in Dublin, Ireland.
In 2002, Norman Dello Joio had many impressive wins all on his mount Glasgow, including the Nortel Networks World Cup in Calgary Canada, the FEI Land Rover World Cup in Oslo, Norway and the $35,000 Nutrena Grand Prix of Palm Beach in Palm Beach, FL.
In 2003, Norman Dello Joio started the year off with a win in the $75,000 Zada Enterprises Masters Cup at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.
