Living Legends Stables

As new students come and go I have been asked by several people what Living Legends Stables are, and what makes us special. It is difficult to give a brief answer, (I feel like I could write a book on the subject), but I will try to give a brief description of what Living Legends Stables is, and what I am trying to accomplish.

Lesson Goals:

To provide the opportunity for people of all ages, ability levels, and economic classes to enjoy and learn about horses. (This includes the opportunity for students to experience a variety of riding styles.)

To educate students in horsemanship, including equitation skills and care of horses.

To promote treating horses with respect and compassion.

To provide a safe and fun environment for learning.

To promote TEAMWORK, both between the rider and the horse, and between riders.

To teach students how to set goals and assist them in achieving their goals.

To increase each student`s confidence, self esteem and improve communication skills.

To provide students with the opportunity to participate in competition. (Horse shows provide us with a tool to measure our skills.)

To celebrate each student`s successes and share their disappointments.

To promote RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY.

To have fun!

Overall, I hope my students learn how to love, respect and enjoy horses. I hope that they learn that you don`t have to win blue ribbons to be a "winner". (Winning is the proverbial "frosting on the cake", doing your best is the cake!) I encourage students to develop friendships with the horses and with each other (I believe horseback riding is a social sport), and ask them to address conflicts which occur openly, honestly, and respectfully. I try to teach and role model good communication skills. Most importantly, I believe that riding is as much a mental activity as it is a physical sport, and that if you believe in yourself, you can and will achieve your goals and dreams.

I would like to tell you a little about ourselves and our horses. Our stable is located in Shafter, California. We are approximately two hours from Los Angeles and about five hours from Sacramento. We have been involved in farming for over forty years. Twenty two years ago, we bought our very first two foxtrotters which we used strictly for trail riding. After a few years, we purchased a few quality show mares and have bred these mares to some of the top stallions in this breed. We are small breeders, producing only two or three foals a year from some of the best bloodlines we could find in this breed. Several of the foals that we have produced, have been shown with great success and some have been used strictly for pleasure riding. Our foals have been sold to foxtrotter enthusiasts all over this country. Our goal has been to breed for the best quality foxtrotters that we can hope for. We strive for calm dispositions, good conformation, soundness and above all...........natural gait! Over the years, we`ve had many foals born here that have come in a variety of colors to choose from. We have truly enjoyed being involved in this breed, but most of all, we are thankful for the very nice people that we have met and also for those who have guided and helped us for so many years with our horses. Come on in and take a look at some of our favorite photos of both Dennis and myself (Janice) and our foxtrotters. We hope you enjoy your visit and do come back and visit us soon..........HAPPY TRAILS!

Corporate Rides

MTM Ranch has a rich and successful history in group rides. We are known for our personal approach and uncompromised safety standards. Our insurance reflects our flawless record and you are more than welcome to investigate. Yearly we invite all of our different planners to come and enjoy a site inspection tour. You are welcome to come to the MTM and familiarize yourself with our facility and expert staff.

We take groups up to 25 people. When planning a group ride some of the following information may help you more effectively plan a smooth departure, ride and return for your guests.

The size of your group will affect the time they will actually depart the MTM on their ride. The formula for timing is: Every 12 riders takes at least 20 minutes to mount on horseback. It doesn`t matter what any ranch tells you, it is a fact of life and a good DMC will adjust and plan accordingly. Using this formula, 25 guests need over 40 minutes to get on their way.

We have done groups of 50 by splitting them into two groups. While the first group is on their one hour tour, the other group may arrive and prepare to mount up. As the first group arrives back to the ranch, we can load up the second group and get them on their way.

If time allows we generally go about ten minutes over our time so guests may feel the satisfaction of a full ride. This sometimes is difficult when guests are slow, chatty and just not in a hurry to get on. We stay aware that transportation on buses is by the hour and we respect that.

We are able to fax our waivers to be reviewed by your guests while in transport. This is a great time saving measure. We do have a riding instructional tape to familiarize guests with our methodology, thusly enriching the experience. It is entertaining, educational and fun for passengers to view in transport.

Please contact us for more information and for corporate rates.
