Mulcahy Draft Horses, California USA
We are located in the high desert mountains of north east CA, 85 miles from Reno, NV.
A small, family operated facility, we have registered Friesians and Belgians. We strive for quiet dispositions and wonderful conformation. We are also developing horses that are easygoing, whether riding on the trail or pulling a wagon down the road. We are currently developing a breeding program for Friesians and Belgians. We would love to talk to you about your interest in acquiring one of our future foals. |
Helen got her first horse, an Appaloosa/Thoroughbred cross when she was 14 years old. She never looked backed! She had only Appaloosas until 2001, when she got her first two Belgians. They were geldings who were both over 18 hands. For a short period she had a commercial carriage business with them, and was able to show them at the Draft Horse Classic in Grass Valley, CA. Helen has a background as a Letter Carrier for the USPS, and in Law Enforcement. She has worked for the Oakland Police Department and the Lassen County Sheriff`s Office. She now works for the California Highway Patrol. Helen attended Lassen College. While there she completed her certification in Power Generation Technology, to become a Power Plant Operator. She was offered an internship, but declined, so as not to have to move from the Susanville area. She also attended the Second Nature School of Taxidermy. Helen is also a certified welder.
John grew up in Rockledge, PA. After graduating from Penn State he joined the Army, and then ended up in CA, luckily for Helen! He has lived in Susanville since 1980.
Helen grew up in Lafayette CA. She finally got tired of the crowds, traffic and crime of the Bay Area and moved to the mountains of far north east CA in 1999. In 2001 she decided to attend Lassen College, and has lived in Susanville ever since.
We have a variety of other interests, besides the horses as well. We both enjoy scuba diving and kayaking. Helen has a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and John rides a Trike, with a Volkswagon engine. We love to travel, and have been to many areas of the US as well as out of the country. We also own a 143 acre horse property/ranch in AR, where we plan to eventually settle. It has pasture and woods, and many great horse-driving trails. In March of 2005 we purchased our original 74 acres. In August of 2007 we purchased an adjoining 69 acres. It is a wonderful place, and we are very excited about moving there.
