Metis Trotter (Russian Trotter Horse)
The Metis Trotter horse breed is a cross between American Standardbred and Orlov Trotter horses, with 156 Standardbred horses and 200 mares imported to Canada in the 1970s for this purpose. The breed is versatile and can be used for riding, driving, and farm work.
The Metis Trotter is energetic, courageous, and fast with good stamina. It has a medium-sized build and can stand between 14-16 hands high. The breed was recognized in Russia in 1949 and has since been valued as a racehorse and well-cared for in terms of stabling and feeding.
