Marcus Armytage was born the 17th July 1964 in Oxford, UK, Marcus came from an equesttrian family his father Roddy Armytage was a successful racehorse trainer based in East Ilsley, near Newbury. His mother Sue Whitehead was also a successful equestrian as an international showjumping rider.

Marcus Armytage a former national hunt jockey, on retirement became an horse racing journalist / columnist. When Marcus Armytage & Mr Frisk won the 1990 grand national they set a new race record, beating Red Rums record by 14 seconds.

Marcus Armytage retired from the race track in 2000 with 100 race victories recorded. As a journalist Marcus wrote as the Newmarket correspondent for the racing post between 1990 - 1993, before moving to the Daily Telegraph, he also was a regular contributor to the Horse & Hound.
