Laura Collett has performed a fantastic test in Tokyo, following fellow British team member Oliver Townend, Laura Collett scored 25.80 putting her in forth spot individually so far in the dressage and keeping Britain in prime position for the team event. Laura Collett made her four-star debut with Andrew Nicholson’s former ride Ginger May Killinghurst at Burghley last year finishing in 30th place. This will be the first Badminton for the twenty-one year-old who is based near Membury in Wiltshire. A former show rider with show and working hunter ponies, in 2003 Laura won the Supreme Pony Championship at the Horse of the Year Show. She started eventing aged 15. The following year (2005) she won British team gold and individual silver at the Pony European Championships with Noble Springbok and in 2006 aged 16 Laura became the youngest rider ever to win an international event when winning the CCI** at Tweseldown with Fernhill Sox.
She has since been successful at both Junior and Young Rider level winning team and individual gold with Rayef in 2007 at the junior European championships and again in 2009 at the Young Rider Europeans. Last year with Fernhill Cristal she won another British team gold at the Young Rider European Championships in Pardubice where they were eighth individually. Laura is a member of the lottery funded World Class programme. Rayef a 12-year-old Dutch-bred horse of unknown breeding was acquired in 2005. British bred Ginger May Killinghurst, a half sister to successful eventer Lord Killinghurst, was originally produced by Bermudan rider MJ Tumbridge with who she came to Badminton in 2005 but was withdrawn after the dressage. After a year off Andrew Nicholson took over the ride and in 2010 the ride was given to Laura.
