Trail Riding At Jackson Hole, Wyoming
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. In Wyoming, do as the cowboys do. Saddle up and head for the trails only with a guide for novice or experienced equestrians.
Jackson Hole, surrounded by mountains, is a small valley 84 miles long and 15 miles wide. It is Wyoming`s primary vacation spot and portal to some wonderful western sights.
Most of Jackson Hole is part of the Grand Teton National Park with Yellowstone National Park a few miles north. Nearly 60 mammal species free range the parks. Grizzly bears, mountain lions and wolves are part of the mix. The Hole’s average elevation is about 6,020 feet and mountain peaks are upwards of 7,000 to 13,000+ feet. This means horseback riding with guides is definitely best.
Dude ranches around Jackson Hole are a great place to start a trail ride. Just south of the town is Mill Iron Ranch, which schedules half and full day guided trail rides into the mountains. Ride with and get to know real cowboys through the day and on the ranch during the evenings.
Year-round guided trail rides into the Bridger-Teton wilderness from the Heart Six Ranch is another choice. Heart Six goes back to the early 1900s and is one of the area’s most beautiful guest ranches. Horseback trail rides range from two hours to extended pack trips on excellent horses with capable wranglers, taking guests into the breathtaking backcountry and streams of the Tetons.
For those visitors wanting an isolated experience, Goosewing Ranch offers seclusion in Wyoming’s most pristine wilderness. Goosewing is snuggled in the Gros Ventre River Valley. The river joins the Snake River in the Jackson Hole valley. Summer months are when wranglers lead trail rides. Riding experiences are available for beginners to advanced riders.
Kim`s International career began at nineteen by winning the North American Young Riders CSI-J Individual Gold Medal at the 2003 Championships. Kim was also awarded the Jump Canada Youth Bursary for equestrian excellence. In 2004, Kim won the Molson Canadian Three Star gold medal at the Spruce Meadows Summer Tournaments and subsequently was invited to represent Canada at the prestigious Spruce Meadows Masters, the richest show jumping tournament in the world. Closing the 2004 season with a second place finish in the highly contested Canadian Show Jumping Championships held at the Royal Horse Show, Kim`s impressive achievements throughout the year resulted in her being named to the Canadian Equestrian Team`s short list.
Since that time, Kim has enjoyed tremendous results. In 2005 an individual fourth place finish at the North American Young Riders CSI-YR Championships, a second consecutive Gold medal in the Molson Three Star Award and numerous internationally ranked grand prix placings, Kim finished the year in fourth place nationally on the FEI World Rider Rankings list. Securing her position on Canada`s short list, Kim`s accomplishments also resulted in a sponsorship with `Team Molson`; a program for aspiring world class show jumping athletes as well as Antares Sellier France.
In 2006, Kim was invited to represent Canada at CSI-W Rio de Janeiro where she earned The Leading Foreign Rider Award.
In 2007, Kim had more than a dozen Grand Prix placings including a victory in the Scotia Cup at Spruce Meadows. In recognition of her results throughout the year, Kim was once again chosen to represent Canada as an individual at The Spruce Meadows Masters, as well as being one of only 2 riders to qualify for the International division at the Royal Horse Show. In 2008, Kim kept up her momentum with victory in Thermal California in the HITS $25,000 Grand Prix as well as numerous grand prix placings. Continued success in 2009 and 2010 with victories in the $50,000 Palgrave Classic Grand Prix and $30,000 HSBB Grand Prix has kept Kim amongst the top in the sport of show jumping in Canada.
Kim has continued to make a name for herself both in and out of the show ring as an exceptional rider, trainer and coach. She is as dedicated to the success of her students as she is to her own.
