Katie Monahan Prudent
Katie Monaham Prudent is an American showjumping rider who has been at the top of the sport for decades, in 2004 Katie became of the American hunter hall of fame. Her successes include being a member of the 1986 USA team at the world equestrian who won the gold medal. Over the years Katie has played mentor to many talented young riders who have included Beezie Madden, Elise Haas and Kimberly Prince.
Katie Monahan-Prudent has been a major force in the American hunter/jumper world for almost four decades. As a junior she won both the ASPCA Maclay and the USEF medal equitation finals. Later she became the top hunter rider in America winning championships at all of the major horse shows and taking many horses to horse of the year titles. In 2004 Katie was voted into the hunter Hall of Fame.
Katie is even better known for her successes in the international jumper world. She was a member of the 1986 gold medal World`s Championship team. She has won almost every grand prix on the east coast of America and earned the title of U.S. Rider of the Year three times. Katie`s many successes were due, in part, to her keen ability to pick talented young horses and develop them to a high level. In addition, Katie has proven her ability to pick talented young riders and to coach them to the international level. In 2000 the United States Olympic Committee named Katie as their coach of the year. Katie`s uncanny ability to spot horses and riders and turn them into international winners has been recognized worldwide. Over the past 5 years she has been sought after to teach clinics for grand prix riders in France, Italy, Switzerland, and England, as well as the U.S.
Katie makes her bases in Middleburg Virginia, USA and Rosičres aux Salines, France. Together, she and her husband, French equestrian Henri Prudent, run an international training program. At this time Katie`s top student is 19 year old Hungarian rider Henri Kovacs. Among other wins this year Henri Kovacs topped the field in the first two grand prix events held in the new stadium in Lexington, Kentucky built for 2010 World Equestrian Games.
