Jutland Draft Horse - Danish Heavy Horses |
The Jutland Heavy horse originates from the Jutland Peninsula, Denmark, they are most commonly chestnut in color and have a calm, willing temperament and were used mostly for agriculture, they were also used as draft horse pulling beer wagons, including the famous Carlsber Brewery Jutland horses.
The Jutland horse breed can be traced back to the 9th century, used by the Vikings, in the 18th century some bloodlines from other draft horse breeds were introduced to the breed. The Jutland studbook was created in the late 19th century, by 1950 the number of registered Jutland horses was around 15,000 but the number has declined significantly and is now only around 1,000 Jutland draft horses remain.
