Ferdinand
A thoroughbred born 1983, Ferdinand is a successful race horse who won the Kentucky Derby in 1986 and the following year won the Breeders Cup classic. During there career Ferdinand won $3,777,978. In 1994 Ferdinand was sold to Japan in 1994, in 2002 Ferdinand was sent to slaughter, this would become the vocal point for the Ferdinand fee, a donation to care for elderly retired race horses.
Ferdinand is a son of the stallion Nijinsky out of the mare Banja Luka who is a daughter of Double Jay. Ferdinand was bred by Howard A. Keck and trained by Charlie Whittingham. Below you can watch Ferdinand winning the Kentucky Derby.
