Woodlay Black Arabians
Ann Hawke at Woodlay Arabians has been involved with breeding pure bred Arabian horses since 1979, starting with the purchase of Blue Lucius, a pure Crabbet stallion by Silver Blue out of Ludovici (Dancing King/Luda). Blue Lucius was shown with much success as a youngster, winning numerous Championships both in hand and under saddle and was twice placed 1st at our British National Show.
In 1986 a life long dream to breed black Arabians was fulfilled with the purchase of the young American black colt Blacklord Caesaro who proved an exceptional sire of many champions.
Caesar was closely followed in 1987 by the purchase of two very lovely young black fillies, DP Black Angel and DP Black Sarong from Milly Tresierra of Dragon Place Arabians in British Columbia, Canada. Then along came My Midnite Dancer from the Flying A Ranch in California. These three black fillies were the foundation of our black breeding programme.
In 1999 without doubt the most exciting addition arrived in the shape of the most exotic black show stallion R ALI BEY, by Magic Dream (Ali Jamaal) out of Bey Affair (Bey Shah). With his exceptional head and eye, wonderful body and superb movement, and also most importantly his lovely people loving temperament we feel very proud and honoured to have him at Woodlay, where he will be loved and treasured for the rest of his life.
When Ali Bey arrived we realised we would need a very special mare for him. A trip to Lenita Perroy in Brazil resulted in the purchase of the fabulous black mare, Walkyria El Jamaal, who is in foal to Ali Bey for a Double Ali Jamaal foal in 2003.
Our most recent arrivals are two gorgeous fillies : Mona Lisa Bey is a black filly by NV Beau Bey and Camaya by the Ali Jamaal son, Dream Quest. More information can be found on the mares page.
Woodlay is a working farm and we also offer self catering holidays in 9 self contained holiday cottages set in a wooded valley on the farm. There are also 6 well stocked coarse fishing lakes only 100 yards from the accommodation for the use of visitors who also wish to fish. Further information can be found at Woodlay Holidays.
