Drumbeats
One of his champion sire’s 89 stakes winners Drumbeats, a $350,000 Easter yearling, displayed immediate ability for Darley. Flemington placed at his only two-year-old start, he was in great form at three, at only his second career outing a game second in the Gr.2 Roman Consul Stakes.
Back in Melbourne for his next start the Peter Snowden trained bay found plenty of trouble in the Listed Gothic Stakes – pushed off the track prior turn only to show good heart to storm home for a half length second to subsequent Gr.1 winner Heart Of Dreams.
Breaking through at Listed level at only his fourth start, Drumbeats again had to overcome a chequered passage in the Springtime Stakes but was just too strong.
Given the autumn off, Drumbeats reappeared the following spring – at only his second run in winning the Gr.2 Shannon Stakes. Continuing to prove competitive in the best of company, he was a close up fifth in the Gr.1 Epsom, fourth in the Gr.1 Doncaster, third in the Gr.2 Theo Marks (behind More Joyous) and third in the Gr.2 Crystal Mile. And during his final campaign last spring, he added to his tally the Gr.3 Bill Ritchie Handicap.
Drumbeats is one of an incredible 25 winners from 29 runners bred on the outstandingly successful Redoute’s Choice/Last Tycoon cross that results in a duplication of the great mare Best In Show.
We all know what a great sire Redoute’s Choice is with his 21 Gr.1 winners. And now he is turning out to be an influential sire of sires, already ten of his sons – Stratum, Snitzel, Not a Single Doubt, Nadeem, Bradbury’s Luck, Al Samer, Duelled, Fast `N` Famous, God`s Own and Coats Choice – siring stakes winners.
Last Tycoon meanwhile keeps proving his worth as a broodmare sire with a mammoth 135 stakes winners including 26 Gr.1 winners.
Drumbeats is from Delicate Choice, daughter of Gr.1 VRC Oaks and Gr.1 1000 Guineas victor Arborea – dam of with six winners including the tough Delta Form who won at Gr.2 level in the US (also twice Gr.1 placed) and at Listed level in South Africa.
