Once the forage has dried to the desired dry matter level, the forage is baled, wrapped and stored on pallets within 60 seconds. The baling is done with a Massey Ferguson 139 baler to ensure high density of the bales. The bales weigh 65 kg. To secure the best hygienic quality, a biological inoculant (safe for both horses and humans) of high quality is added to forage. The inoculant F22 contains six types of lactic acid bacteria and enzymes that will help speed up the fermentation process. One of the lactic acid bacteria (Lactococcos Lactis) is included to decrease the presence of clostridia in the ensiled forage. By adding extra lactic acid bacteria to the forage during ensiling, it may have the same positive effect that yoghurt has for the human stomach.
