The household cavalry have always been an important part of the ceromony surrounding the royal family, below you can see some vintage footage from 1992 when the German President Roman Herzog visited Queen Elizabeth II at Wondsor castle. Before the German president reached the gates of Windsor castle one of the cavalryman escorting the carriages was thrown from his horse when it reared.
The rider, who was wearing a heavy breastplate and armour fell on a sanded road in front of the queen`s carriage. He was taken to a local hospital with shoulder and spine injuries. The rider was later discharged from hospital a few days later with soft tissue injuries to his back and a fractured collar bone.
