Bubby Upton
Stableexpress have had a quick catch up with British event rider Bubby Upton and she was kind enough to answer these quick questions for us
When did you begin riding?
I`ve ridden ever since i can remember. My whole family used to ride and we all did Pony Club together so it was a real family affair. But then my brother and sister gave up as teenagers but i have always been obsessed with riding so there was no chance in me giving up!
Horse of a Lifetime, competition results highlights?
I really couldn`t pick out one horse as a horse of a lifetime as i have been lucky enough to already ride such special horses so early on in my career, with various horses making dreams of mine become a reality. Fernhill Rockstar (Ricky) is a horse that will always hold an unbelievably special place in my heart as him and Eros DHI were my first horses. Ricky took me round my first ever Advanced, which we won, so that was very special ! He also got me my first completion at 4* level where he finished 4th!! But most memorably, i made my Senior Debut on him in the Nations Cup on home soil at Houghton, where we finished 3rd as a team. I had one of my career highlights on Eros DHI, who i have had since a 5 year old, when we won Individual Gold at the Junior European Championships and set a World Record for the lowest 2* dressage score of all time back in 2017! Another career highlight was winning the British 7 year old championships in 2017, when i was only 18 on Cola III, and it was his first ever time at the level which made it even more special! Cola also won Team Gold and Individual silver this year at the Young Rider European Championships, which was an unforgettable day as it was my first ever Team Gold!
Equestrian Goals?
Like most eventers, my ultimate goal is to ride at the Olympics, however with only 3 riders now being selected it is tougher than ever! It would be a dream to ride at Badminton and Burghley and to represent GB at a Senior European Championship/World equestrian Games, as nothing quite beats riding for your country.
Words Of Wisdom?
I was once told by the late Ian Olding to "Follow Your Dream" and that saying is engraved on my necklace and its exactly what i am doing and i would encourage everyone to do the same.
