Devendorf`s Round One in the Commonwealth Park`s Grand Prix field asked riders to jump 17 obstacles on the 14-jump course, including a double at Fence No. 8 and a triple at Fence No. 10. Time Allowed was 98 seconds. Nine horses had clear rounds and moved on to the Jump-Off.
On the seven-element short course with Time Allowed at 50 seconds, the first five riders all had faults with rails down or time or both. The first fault-free round went to the sixth horse on course, Brave Ally, ridden by Christopher Cawley of Glenmore, Pennsylvania. With a time of 48.736, Cawley held the lead for one more round but ended up in third place, earning $6,500 for owner November Hill Farm.
Firestone and Arnica de la Barre, her second of two rides in the jump-off, were eighth to go and snatched the lead from Cawley with a clear trip in 46.850, more than two seconds faster for the win. The ninth rider and last to go in the jump-off was Mary Lisa Nicholson from Brookeville, Maryland, on Kick the Clouds, her second ride on the short course. Nicholson challenged the leader with a fault-free, fast round, but could not catch Firestone. Nicholson`s time of 47.755 put her in second place for $11,000 by just .905 seconds. Kick the Clouds is owned by Nicholson and Rolling Acres Farm.
The Constitution Classic, August 23-27, is the next horse show in the HITS Culpeper Horse Shows presented by Panacur Powerpac summer series. Alison Firestone, 23, qualified for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney as part of the four-member United States Equestrian Team, but before leaving for the Olympics, Firestone`s horse, Jox, suffered an abscessed foot. To ensure Jox`s full recovery, Firestone opted not to go to Sydney and worked with the staff at the Marion DuPont Equine Medical Center to attend to Jox.
Firestone is a member of the Ariat English ProTeam and serves as a consultant to Ariat for the development of quality equestrian footwear for the hunter/jumper industry. Firestone is on tour in Europe, participating in some of the most competitive Grand Prix competitions in the world. Firestone will return to the United States in December to compete at the Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

Alison Firestone Wins in Helsinki
Alison Firestone, of Upperville, VA, captured the win at the Volvo Grand Prix in Helsinki, Finland on October 22 aboard Royal Future, a 10-year-old bay gelding.
