Thoroughbred horse ownership certainly has its benefits. The feeling of watching your horse run is an exhilarating experience. When they win, it is truly an indescribable feeling. Warning: it is addicting.

Backside By joining Post Call Stable, or any racing partnership, you become an "owner." In the state of Kentucky, this means that you may purchase an owners license for $35 annually and have the following benefits:

Free admission for you and a friend to any racetrack in the state

This includes admission to Churchill Downs on Derby Day, but you won`t have a seat, just general admission Free parking at any racetrack in the state

Access to the backside to see your horses exercise in the morning or just to stop by in the afternoon

Admission to the paddock on raceday to hear pre-race strategy from the trainer and jockey

Horse racing is, however, a business to many. With any business, there is a bottom line. It is unusual to make a profit in the thoroughbred horse business. This is because in the United States only about 45% of the upkeep for a horse is returned in purses each year. Although purses are on the rise, there would essentially have to be a doubling of the current purse structure to have an average stable break even.

We have been very fortunate to operate our stable in the past without significant billing of the members. The true benefit is seen here: when the horses run well, the stable pays for itself, and days at the races are great fun.
