Abbie Crippen (Squires)

Abi Crippen How did you start riding, name of your your first horse : I began riding when i was about 10 yrs old at my local riding school. My parents were not horsey but finally gave in and found me a loan pony when i was about 12yrs old! And then finally after lots of nagging bought me my 1st pony called Sally!

Horse of a Lifetime: I couldn`t choose between Enrique and Vilka B. With Enrique we jumped on many junior and young rider nations cups and placed in many grand prix`s up to 4*. Vilka B who has just retired to have a foal was an out and out winner. We came 2nd in the World Class under 23`s Championship at Olympia. won the All stars Grand prix and won many classes up to 4* for me!

Equine Goals: As a rider my main aim is to be part of a winning nations cup teams and to produce top class horses.

Words Of Wisdom: You never stop learning! Always watch others-grooms and riders. You can learn a lot!

Abbie Squires - Show Jumping Rider

Abbie Squires

Abbie is without doubt one of the best ‘young riders’ in the country, her journey first started at a local riding school at the age of 5. Intermittent ‘pony rides’, eventually turned into fortnightly lessons and then to the loan of a pony two days a week.
Abbies first pony (Maerdy Mocha) was bought when she was 12, a newly broken 4 year old who truly taught her to ‘ride’. It took 18 months before she started competing in affiliated competitions. Abbies 2nd pony (Ping) a JC pony enabled her to qualify for HOYS, in 2 consecutive years along with her other pony Kingston (2005,2006).
In her final year on ponies Abbie qualified on ‘Touch of Joy’ and ‘Miss Bluff’ for the Royal International Horse Show and HOYS Junior Show Jumper of the Year. She also won the ‘JC’ class at POYS and won POYS 148 Grand Prix.
The progression onto horses has been seamless. Enrique, Abbies first horse has won too many competitions to list (refer to results page). With Abbies determination they have soared up the World Class Development Programme ranking list, coming 2nd overall in the under 23’s in 2010 and series of 1st postions throughout 2011. They have competed internationally, placed 7th in the 4* Atlantic Tour Grand Prix and represented their country as a ‘Junior’ and ‘Young Rider’, winning silver and gold. 2010/11 has seen Abbie develop into a top class rider and she has established her International pedigree.
Abbie is currently trained by Tim Stockdale a prolific rider and well accomplished show jumping competitor. She is based in Hertfordshire, with her own professional equestrian training yard. She has a strong network of people supporting her and has built up a very impressive squad of horses (refer to meet the horses section).
Abbies determination, dedication and talent have made her a truly successful rider, chosen by The World Class Programme in 2011 as an athlete with a fantastic future ahead.
“I’m extremely pleased with how my season has progressed in 2011/12. I have concentrated on international events and strength training"
